Moonstone is a feldspar, technically a fine intergrowth of two related minerals (orthoclase and albite) that scatter light across thin internal layers. That scattering produces adularescence, the soft rolling glow that seems to drift inside the stone as you tilt it. Sri Lankan blue moonstone shows the cleanest blue sheen against an almost transparent body. Indian rainbow moonstone, technically a labradorite, shows broader spectral flashes against a milky white.
Across cultures the stone has been read alongside the moon itself. Roman and Greek writers connected it with lunar deities, and traditional Indian jewellery has used it in bridal pieces for centuries. The shared thread is its association with cycles: tides, seasons, and the slower rhythms that govern emotion and intuition rather than will.
In modern crystal practice moonstone sits with the crown and sacral chakras. It is one of the stones most often gifted at a transition, a new chapter, or a moment of becoming. A piece in the pocket reads less like a charge and more like a quiet companion. Care is worth a note: at hardness six it scratches more easily than quartz, and the fine internal layering means hot water and ultrasonic cleaners can stress the stone. A soft cloth and the occasional rinse in cool water is enough to keep a moonstone looking lit from within.

Amethyst
A violet quartz long associated with calm thinking, clear sleep, and the third-eye chakra. The stone we reach for when the mind needs to settle.

Labradorite
A grey feldspar that flashes blue, gold, and green in the right light, traditionally a stone for moments of transition.

Clear Quartz
The most abundant crystal on earth and the one most traditions treat as a generalist. Used to amplify intention, clarify thinking, and pair with almost any other stone.

Opal
A hydrated silica that produces play-of-colour through pure structural diffraction, traditionally the October birthstone and a stone of imagination.
