Why buy from AU Crystals.
Most crystal shopping online is opaque. Photos are filtered, treatments are hidden, and the same kilo lot is resold five times over. We work the other way around. Small batch, named sources, honest photographs, and a real person on the other end of the message.
What we don’t do.
Plain limitsStating limits upfront is the most useful thing a small shop can do. Here is what you will not find here.
No bulk bins.
We do not buy mixed kilos and resell from a tray. Each piece is chosen on its own, not graded out of a wholesale lot.
No dyed howlite sold as turquoise.
If a stone is dyed, stabilised, or reconstituted, the listing says so. We will not rename a cheaper stone to chase a price tier.
No untraceable mid-grade lots.
Every piece has a named source, a region, and where possible a mine or a small dealer we can point to. If we cannot trace it, we do not list it.
No lab-grown sold as natural.
Lab-grown stones can be lovely. They are also clearly labelled. Citrine that started life as heated amethyst is described that way, not as natural citrine.
No aspirational filtered photos.
No saturation boosts, no fantasy gradients, no AI render dressed up as a product shot. The colour you see is the colour that arrives.
What we do.
Quiet promisesFive small commitments that shape every listing and every DM reply.
A named source per piece.
Origin and dealer are recorded for every stone. You can ask, and we can tell you who handled it before us.
Daylight photography.
Every piece is photographed in natural light against a neutral backdrop. Multiple angles, no retouching of colour.
Honest treatment disclosure.
Heat, irradiation, dye, stabilisation, reconstitution: anything done to the stone is on the listing in plain language.
Small batch by design.
We list what we have, not what a drop-shipper has. Stock is small on purpose. When a piece is gone, it is gone.
Hand-arranged orders, for now.
While the public shop is still being built, every order is arranged personally through Instagram DM. Photos, prices, and questions all answered by a human.
How we compare.
Honest, not flatteringEtsy, Amazon Handmade, and bulk crystal shops all serve real purposes. They are simply built for different goals. Here is a fair side-by-side, written without flattery in any direction.
| AU Crystals | Typical Etsy listing | Typical Amazon Handmade | Typical bulk crystal shop | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sourcing transparency | Named dealer or mine recorded for every piece. Origin shown on the listing. | Varies by seller. Many listings give a country at best, often nothing. | Brand-level claims are common. Per-piece origin is rare. | Pallet-level sourcing. Individual provenance is usually unknown. |
| Photo accuracy | Daylight, neutral backdrop, multiple angles, no colour retouching. | Mixed. Hero images are sometimes stock or borrowed from suppliers. | Often a single rendered image reused across many listings. | Catalogue photos that rarely match the unit you receive. |
| Batch size | Small. We list what we hold and update when a piece sells. | Anywhere from one-off makers to drop-ship volume sellers. | High volume. Same listing fulfils thousands of identical units. | Wholesale quantities. The same lot moves through many resellers. |
| Treatment disclosure | Heat, dye, stabilisation, irradiation, and reconstitution all stated. | Inconsistent. Often fails to disclose treatment, especially on coloured stones. | Treatment is usually omitted from product copy. | Treatment information rarely travels with the stone past the importer. |
| Returns and recourse | Direct contact with us. Photos before shipping, questions answered before payment. | Depends entirely on the individual shop policy. | Platform returns are easy, but the seller behind the listing can be hard to reach. | Trade terms favour the seller. Consumer recourse is limited. |
| Community and after-sale support | Ongoing answers on care, pairing, and follow-up purchases through Instagram. | Some shops are wonderful here. Others go quiet after dispatch. | Support is transactional. There is no relationship after the order. | Designed for resale, not for a customer relationship. |
Generalisations about other channels describe common patterns, not every individual seller. Many independent makers on Etsy operate to a higher standard than the average, and a few bulk shops are excellent.
